ANNONCE: THE EXCESS 14 SERIES !

Statut : Entrée en production le 10 février, 2022. Bordeaux, France.

L'Excess 14 est dans les starting-blocks de la chaîne de production ! Toute l'équipe Excess travaille sur ce projet depuis près d'un an et c’est maintenant le moment de vérité.

Notre objectif avec cette série est de partager avec vous, notre communauté du Lab, des aperçus de la construction de notre nouveau catamaran à voile. En suivant l’Excess 14 Series, vous serez en mesure de voir des moments uniques de la construction de notre toute première unité. ????peut on rêver d’un catamaran à quillon dont les performances (remonté au vent, vitesse, vmg...) s’approchent de celles des copains à dérives ? plus léger que nos bateaux de croisière (très lourds et sur équipés) et pour autant assez habitable et confortable avec un budget cohérent ? Le cata idéal quoi ????...

14 looks so attractive. The hull design, sail plans, and deeper draft.... Now, I understand that you were eagerly discussing the topic of draft one year ago. Would it be possible for you to give us a ballpark figure about improvement of angle in the close hauled in comparison with 15?

Dear Hiroshi,

we have not finalised the polars of the Excess 14 yet, we are still updating and compiling more data about this boat. But, if I had to 'guess' upwind performance against an Excess 15, I would not be surprised to see a slightly better pointing angle for the 14, and of course a better speed for the 15 (waterline length is key...). The efforts made on the 14 are more focused onto sensentions than racing performance. The 15 has a good SA/Displ ratio, so it is likely that the 'size' rule will apply...

Very interesting cat, beautiful lines and smart solutions. The only unknown matter is how much she will sail leeward once in close haul. It will be possible to have an hybrid version (electric engines, diesel genetic, solar panels and lithium batteries) ?

Our naval architects have done deep studies to search and improve upwind behavior. Of course, the Excess 14 is a cruising cat and will never sail to windward as a monohull would do but, we are confident that it will really prove better than most cruising cats in those circumstances.
A hybrid version is not available yet on this model, but of course this is an option that we would like to offer in the near future. Our teams work on this matter every day and many subjects discussed on the Lab are about this topic, so please don't hesitate to comment and share more of your knowledge and expectations on this.
